American Mosaic Art Enters Permanent Collection of Italian Art Museum
Dallas, TX, October 5, 2013 – Sonia King’s mosaic artwork “Depthfinder” has been acquired by the Museo d’Arte della città di Ravenna (MAR). It is the first mosaic by an American included in the MAR’s permanent collection of contemporary mosaic art. King’s art will be featured prominently during RavennaMosaico, the biennial international mosaic festival in Ravenna, Italy.
The presentation of Depthfinder will be October 12, 2013 in conjunction with the opening of the redesigned galleries for contemporary mosaic art at the MAR. The evening, known as Notte d’Oro (Night of Gold), signals the opening of over twenty mosaic exhibitions. King will have two other works on view during RavennaMosaico. “Coded Message: Invisible Ink II” will hang in the international juried exhibition ‘Mosaics from the World’ while “Tabula Rasa” will be part of ‘Bibliomosaico’, an invitational exhibit exploring the relation between mosaics and books.
Sonia King commented, “I am honored that my work has been chosen by the Museo d’Arte in Ravenna for inclusion in their permanent collection of contemporary mosaic art. I’d like to say it’s a ‘dream come true’ but I never dreamt this big.”
